- After BMW had ceased
their activities in the German
DTM, Emanuele virtually became
unemployed because he still had a
valid contract with the Bavarian
corporation, but they had no work
for him. So Pirro concentrated on
some starts as "guest
driver" in various events.
The highly dissatisfactory
situation he was in lead Emanuele
to take the initiative, and so he
decided to ask Audi if they had a
job for him. Well, they had a job
for him indeed since Audi were
about to expand their Touring Car
programme (which had started in
1993 in the French championship)
in the years to come.
