When he was a young boy, Emanuele attended motor racing events together with his father at the Vallelunga circuit which is very close to Rome. These events made quite an impression on him and eventually should change his life.

• 2nd (scored 62 points) in the European Formula 3 Championship in an Euroracing 101-Alfa Romeo. Emanuele's teammate Oskar Larrauri was 1982's champion, scoring just one point more than Pirro.

• 3rd (scored 52 points) in the European Formula 3 Championship in a Ralt RT3/83-Alfa Romeo. Champion: Pierluigi Martini in a Pavesi-entered Ralt RT3-Alfa Romeo

• 6th (scored 18 points) in the European Formula 2 Championship in an Onyx March 842-BMW. Mike Thackwell became the champion in his Ralt RH6/84-Honda, scoring 69 points.

• 3rd (scored 38 points) in the European Formula 3000 Championship with an Onyx March 85B-Cosworth. Christian Danner was the champion, scoring 51 points in an identical car entered by Bob Sparshott Automotive.

• For the first time, Emanuele absolved tests in Formula 1 for Bernie Ecclestone's Brabham Team in one of the BMW-powered turbos.

• 2nd (scored 29 points) in the European Formula 3000 Championship in an Onyx March 86B-Cosworth

• 3rd (scored 195 points) in the Touring Car World Championship with a BMW M3 of the Schnitzer Team. Emanuele's teammate and friend Roberto Ravaglia eventually became the champion.

• Japanese Formula 3000 Championship and Japanese CanAm Series 

• Formula 1 test driver for McLaren-Honda

• Win of the Wellington 500 in New Zealand in a BMW M3 (together with Roberto Ravaglia)
