Thanks to a strong team effort, Team ADT Champion Racing defended its
lead in the American Le Mans Series. In round three at Mid-Ohio, reigning
champion JJ Lehto was involved omn lap 15 in a collision, when a
Porsche spun and a Panoz Esperante made an emergency braking JJ
could not avoid him. JJ 3wheeled the car back to the pits. The modular
construction of the Audi R8 allowed the team to repair the badly damaged
car. 40 minutes after the spectacular accident, Lehto´s team-mate Marco
Werner was able to rejoin the race, securing fifth place in the LM P1 class
and thus defending the overall lead in the ALMS. After a double stint
Emanuele Pirro handed the Audi R8 to Frank Biela in P1. Frank Biela had
to serve a stop-and-go-penalty for making contact with the Maserati
MC12, in the closing stages of the race all Teams had to battle with
difficult conditions caused by rain.
The next race will be in Lime Rock Connecticut, 4 July.
